LGBT apparently the cause of loose morals according to tv....

Honestly, finding a tv program that shows a realistic LGBT relationship is like finding a pig with wings. These broadcasters throw out another so called LGBT friendly storyline and expect us to eat it up, like we should be grateful for all of their 'hard work'.

Well, let's see about these so called storylines:
The characters are usually insane and/or so loose they'd be considered as whores if their lovers ever bought them lunch.
That or they're so full of angst that they go and kill themselves.

Yes, I know many LGBT people all over the world suffer discrimination and hardship but please, can we just once show a sane, educated, happy person in an LGBT relationship. PLEASE. Just once.

The closest thing we got was Ianto from Torchwood. He was an intelligent, attractive, bisexual lad that didn't run around sleeping with everything in sight (which was odd for Torchwood.) And guess what , he ended up getting killed off.

I'm just so sick and tired of how we're represented, and it's getting to a level that I find personally insulting. I'm not a beaten down depressed woman that will jump on any other woman as soon as I see them and do not want to be presented in that way.
I'm not usually one for speaking out as England tends to be pretty tolerant and I've had nothing but positive words for who I am, but come on British media.

Ok, rant over. Please comment and give your opinions.

  1. Sweety, it is Britain's Bi community has been ranting about for a good long while. I'm a Bi activist as you know, and so come into contact with activists who spend more time focusing on the media. In a recent edition of Bi Community News, they covered Stonewalls recent media report (worth a look) which said many of the same things you do.

An if you think that gay and lesbians have it bad, then you are luck if Bisexuals are at all, even then it is in a very poor light, where they are usually either depicted as confused and then 'realize' they are gay/straight, or their Bisexuality is barely ever mentioned, or they are seen as the angst-ridden types you previously mentioned.

What pissed me off about the 456 story of Torchwood was that even Ianto's Bisexuality was to an extent dampened down when the writers had him say of Jack 'It isn't all men, its just him.' This saddened me, as while this was meant to make Jack more special, I actually thought it took something good away from the character.

It also isn't helped by people program makers included, who buy into the myth that sexual orientation is governed by who your dating i.e if your dating a someone of the opposite sex your 'straight' as its a 'straight relationship' and if your dating someoneof the same sex your 'gay/lesbian' as its a 'gay/lesbian relationship' which as I'm sure you know is bollocks! They need to realize it about who your attracted to be it emotional and/or sexual!

But, even in times as these, there are rare exceptions. In 'House' the recent series's there is a Bi woman called 13 who is actually depicted as Bi and its just another aspect of her as opposed to her defining characteristic.

There is also a great mini series on Youtube called 'By any other name' by a Bi media company that tell the story of a lesbian who falls in love with a man, very well done and worth a watch.

    Anyway, thats my rambling done!
